The Colorado State Motto The Colorado motto is expressed in Latin as "Nil sine numine" which means: "Nothing without Providence" The Meaning of the Colorado State Motto The origin of the State Motto was adopted as part of the Territorial Seal. Some translate the Latin motto to mean it is "Nothing without God". The word "numine" means any divinity, god or goddess. The committee report on the motto for the seal clarified the distinction between "numine" and "Deo" and it is specifically states that the committee's interpretative translation was "Nothing without the Deity".
